HIGH-PROFILE Geelong retailer Trevor Elsworthy has died.
Mr Elsworthy, synonymous for the catchphrase “Just ask Trev”, headed up the family business Elsworthy’s Retravision on Moorabool Street, opposite Kardinia Park after it was set up by his father 75 years ago.
Mr Elsworthy was renowned throughout Geelong as a generous contributor to numerous community organisations.
Jack Elsworthy started what was once a small time bicycle repair store. By 1956, with the introduction of television and with the help from his brother Alf, the Elsworthy Brothers shifted their focus from bicycles and toys to electrical appliances and furniture. Under the guidance of Alf’s son, Trevor, Elsworthy’s Retravision grew into a multi award-winning retailer.
Having outgrown its former home at 221 Moorabool Street, it was obvious Elsworthy’s Retravision had to find larger premises. Elsworthy’s new store claimed residence in a much more consumer friendly environment at number 395 Moorabool Street, directly opposite Simonds Stadium.
This transition took place in late 1999, and by the start of 2001 not only was there a much larger showroom for the increasing array of electrical appliances, there was also the acquisition of a warehouse at 164 Fyans Street. Further expansion was to follow in January 2003 with the addition of an adjoining showroom at 401 Moorabool Street.
