CENTRAL Geelong traders are beginning to dress up their windows with festive spirit as the Christmas shopping season approaches.
Fyans Cottage is one of the latest to add a creative splash, while Myer has begun work on its first Geelong Christmas windows display.
The Independent and Central Geelong Marketing have joined forces this year to encourage all traders in the city centre to give their windows a touch of Christmas.
The Independent is offering a $1000 advertising package as a weekly prize for the best window, as judged by readers.
Traders are invited to contact the Independent to have pictures of their windows posted to the paper’s Facebook page, where the number of ‘likes’ for each entry will determine the winner.
Mayor Darryn Lyons will choose an overall winner, who will receive a $2500 advertising package from the Independent.
Tony Galpin, the managing editor of the Independent, urged traders to get into the spirit of Christmas.
“With the giant floating Christmas tree and Myer’s windows, this season is going to be the biggest yet in Geelong,” he said.
“Make sure you help spread the spirit and show that Geelong’s number one for Christmas this year.”
Central Geelong traders can alert the Independent to their Christmas windows by phoning 5249 6700, emailing editorial@geelongindependent.com, posting at Facebook.com/GeelongIndependent or tweeting @GeelongIndy.
Window photos can be submitted by either the email or Facebook addresses.
