Mia’s open garden aiming to make a splash for club

Two of Mia Cooke’s favourite pursuits will come together when she opens her enchanting garden to the public as a fundraiser this Sunday.
The Point Lonsdale horticulturalist will show off her collection of cottage plants, natives, succulents and vegetables for Portarlington Mussels Masters Swimming Club.
A long-term member of the club, the mother of three spends spare time indulging her passions for gardening and swimming.
She called the Mussels Masters a “wonderful group”.
“There are upward of 20 members of all ages, including many mums with small children.
“Swimming is just so good for fitness, and being able to get together each week as a group is fantastic for health and wellbeing.”
Ms Cooke won a gold medal in breaststroke at last year’s Masters Games in Geelong.
The open garden would raise money for the club’s “young mums” to compete at Melbourne’s aquatic events and other venues, she said.
“By doing this I hope we can raise enough funds to ensure nobody misses out.”
The garden will be open from 10am to 4pm at 11 Lakeland Crt. Entry will cost $5.
