Fire, ambo complex set for Lara

Andrew Mathieson
CONSTRUCTION of a proposed Lara fire and ambulance complex will begin in December, according to local MP John Eren.
But Liberal candidate for Lara Angelo Kakouros has cast doubt over the project, saying he believed finance for the $1.7 million project had gone to Melbourne.
Mr Eren said the complex would be among “a number of various announcements” about local projects in the lead up to next month’s state election.
Mr Eren expected construction to start around the middle of December for completion by mid-2007.
He said the complex would be on Mill Road, behind Lara Railway Station.
Lara CFA captain Barry McKnight said he had been told the fire station would be built first separate from the ambulance service but on the same land purchased from VicTrack.
A spokesperson from Rural Ambulance Victoria said the organisation was unaware of any plans for Lara.
Mr Kakouros wanted the project to include Lara Police Station because he considered emergency services facilities also not up to scratch in the town.
He planned to lobby for better health facilities if elected despite the development of Lara Medical Centre.
