Sweethearts Emmy nomination so sweet

GEELONG’S teenage soul queens Sweethearts are up for an Emmy award for their Heart & Soul TV series.
Created by 1440 productions’ Kristy Fuller and Lynda Morgan, the 13-part series has been screened several times on ABC3. A second season is presently in post-production to air next year following the band’s recent US tour.
Sweethearts is a Matthew Flinders Girls Secondary College based 30-piece all female soul band which has drawn critical acclaim around the world from Switzerland and Italy to the US where it this year performed at Summerfest, the world’s largest music festival.
The first series of Heart & Soul follows the Sweethearts’ quest to play Europe’s top music festivals. The new series charts the turbulent year for the Sweethearts that culminated in their first tour of America.
The Emmy nomination — an International Emmy Kids Award — is not the first international nod to Heart & Soul.
In 2011, it was one of two 1440 Productions shows shortlisted for the MIPCOM Kids Jury 11-14 age category.
“Sci-fi western drama Dig Deep Creek won the category, with Heart & Soul resonating strongly with the 11-14 year old girls for its insight into friendship dynamics and music,” Ms Fuller said.
The Emmy Kids awards will be staged in New York in February.
