Nelis arrested
Police have arrested a man wanted for questioning over the suspicious disappearance of Leopold man Paul Kingsbury.
Investigators arrested John Nelis at an address in Fairbairn Dve, Corio, after a three-week manhunt in Geelong’s northern suburbs.
Vandalism ‘hotspot’
GEELONG is in a “hotspot” for vandalism of cars, according to new RACV figures.
The motoring body said smashed windows, “keying” of panels and denting had left the city and south-west Victoria with Victoria’s biggest insurance claims bill for damage to cars.
Panel revealed
City Hall has revealed a futuristic prototype panel for the dome of Geelong’s new library and heritage centre.
The panel, manufactured at North Geelong’s Kane Constructions, is one of 332 that will make up the skin of the dome, with installation scheduled to begin early in 2015.
Springs sod
THE FIRST sod of a $51 million retirement village at Clifton Springs has been turned to signal the start of construction.
Bellarine Springs will include 200 homes for over 55s and a community centre across nine hectares, creating 50 construction jobs.

A LOCAL apprentice and a trainee have been acknwowledged as among the best in Australia, according to their employer.
Gforce Employment Solutions said Belmont carpentry apprentice Alexander Innes and Highton education trainee Grace Brennan were among 19 winners from a field of 30,000 at a national awards program in Canberra this week.
Netball boost
A netball pavilion worth more than $1 million will cater to growing demand at Leopold, ward councillor Rod Macdonald has announced.
He welcomed a contribution of $100,000 from the Napthine Government this week to complete the required funding for the project, which would deliver a “modern facility” for the increasing number of netballers in the town.
Hornets coming
The RAAF’s “most powerful warplane” will feature at Avalon’s next airshow, organisers have announced.
They said the F/A-18F Super Hornet would be part of the “largest RAAF contingent to ever participate” in the event, scheduled for Avalon Airport form 24 February to 1 March.

DEAKIN University has won International an Education Provider of the Year award.
Victorian International Education Awards judges also gave Deaking two awards for excellence in education for its student “employability” and careers initiatives.
