A burglar with a knife slashed a 16-year-old Wallington girl’s forearm during an early-morning scuffle in her bedroom, according to Geelong police.
Detective Sergeant Brad Lancaster said the girl disturbed the male intruder in her Rhinds Rd home around 4.30am or 5am Wednesday.
Det Sgt Lancaster said the serious wound required surgery.
The offender fled after the girl screamed for her mother.
“We’ve been told by a witness that they observed a white Toyota Camry sedan parked in Rhinds Rd not far from this address around that time,” Det Sgt Lancaster said.
“We call upon either the owner of that car or any other witnesses who might be able to identify the car’s owner to contact police so we can establish whether its’ connected to the offence or not.”
Det Sgt Lancaster said the offender did not say anything during the confrontation.
“We’re quite concerned considering that it’s a young girl in her own house who’s received a significant injury. We’d like to speak to the person involved and establish what the motive for it was.”
Det Sgt Lancaster said the girl’s parents were in shock and concerned for their daughter.
The father was away from home during the incident.
Det Sgt Lancaster said offender was described as aged between 20 and 30, tall and skinny. He wore dark tracksuit pants and a hooded top.
Police are also seeking public help to identify a man after a burglary in Martin St, East Geelong.
Police released CCTV image of a man they want to interview over the burglary.
