New arrest in missing Leopold man case

 UPDATE:

Police have arrested a second person as they continue to investigate the suspicious disappearance of Leopold man Paul Kingsbury.

Police executed a warrant at a residential address in McKillop Street, Geelong yesterday, arresting a 36-year-old man.

He was interviewed and released pending further investigation.

Detectives previously arrested and charged a 36-year-old Indented Heads man in relation to Mr Kingsbury’s disappearance.

Missing Persons Squad investigators continue to appeal for information regarding the whereabouts of a third man – John Nelis.

It’s believed Mr Nelis was in contact with Mr Kingsbury around the time of his disappearance and may vital information which may assist the investigation into his disappearance.

A warrant for his arrest was recently issued and investigators have released a photo of him.

Mr Kingsbury was last seen at a property in Larkins Lane in the early hours on Sunday 6 July.

Investigators believe he may have met with foul play.

Anyone with any information about Mr Kingsbury’s disappearance, or Mr Nelis’ whereabouts, is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.

POLICE fear a drug addict wanted over the likely murder of missing Leopold man Paul Kingsbury will be involved in a deadly ice-fuelled incident.

John Nelis, 31, was sighted by uniformed police late Tuesday night at North Geelong but took off on a motorbike before he could be apprehended.
Acting Inspector Boris Buick  said Nelis was still active in the Geelong area, more than three weeks after a police manhunt for him began.
He said people believed to be harbouring Nelis could avoid criminal prosecution if they came forward to police.
Acting Insp Buick said police believed Nelis was armed and actively using the drug ice. He was concerned a combination of stress from avoiding police and drug abuse could lead to a violent incident.
“We want to grab him before something happens,” he told the Independent.
“We’re worried that he’s actively using ice. We believe he’s armed and we know he has access to multiple vehicles.
“He’s moving about, we’re getting reports of him in different places but after event. He’s moving about in public but seems to conceal himself.
“Our message to the public and to him is the same. We want information about where he is and want him to make contact, through his solicitor would be fine.”
Nelis, of Moolap, is believed to be house-hopping in Corio among a network of contacts, some of whom may be harbouring him unwillingly.
Police have described Nelis as erratic and prone to violence. He narrowly escaped police two weeks ago when he saw police knocking on the door of an associate.
Nelis is wanted over the disappearance of Leopold father-of-one Paul Kingsbury, who was last seen in Larkins Lane, Moolap in the early hours of 6 July. Police suspect Kingsbury is dead, the result of foul play.
A police fugitive taskforce has been drafted in to boost local patrols in the manhunt for Nelis.
Anyone with information should contact Crimestoppers on 1800 333 000.
