Disabled off to dogs for fundraiser

People with disabilities will have “virtual ownership” of greyhounds during a fundraising race night in Geelong on Monday.
Greyhound Racing Victoria’s (GRV) annual TAB Great Chase series randomly assigns dogs to about 2000 clients and carers from Victorian organisations that care for the intellectually or physically disabled.
The clients and carers visit local greyhound racetracks to cheer on their dogs at the beginning of the series.
A GRV spokesperson said the participants also received free merchandise, a complementary meal and could even give their greyhound a cuddle after it races.
“Further, should their greyhound happen to win, the organisation will share in more than $50,000 in prize money and continue to follow their greyhound’s progress throughout the series, which culminates in the TAB Great Chase Grand Final at The Meadows in Melbourne on Wednesday 4 September.”
The series has so far distributed over $300,000 to the disability sector since 2003.
