Local librarian books date with Gates

One of the world’s richest men will help develop the leadership skills of a Geelong librarian.
The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation is sponsoring a two-year program for selected library staff such as Deanne Verity.
She will be one of six Australian representatives at the International Network of Emerging Library Innovators (INELI) Ocean program launch in Melbourne later this month.
The Gates foundation sponsors the program to help spread internet access and skills.
Ms Verity, a children’s and youth services coordinator for Geelong Regional Library Corporation, will engage in various professional development and networking activities as part of the program.
The library corporation said her appointment to INELI was a “great honour”.
Corporation chief Patti Manolois, herself an INELI member in 2011, said Ms Verity was an “outstanding” staff member.
