Melbourne brochure on local jobs ridiculed

Kim Waters
A glossy brochure printed in Melbourne to promote the job creation efforts of an MP in Geelong has earned the ridicule of his opponent.
Liberal candidate Sarah Henderson said it was “ironic” for Corangamite Labor MP Darren Cheeseman to spend money in Melbourne to convince voters about Geelong jobs.
The brochure praised Mr Cheeseman as “very effective in protecting local jobs and driving innovation” in the region.
The Rudd Gorvernment had saved “thousands of local jobs”, the brochure said.
Ms Henderson said she was “very surprised” when she saw the brochure.
“My objective is to do as much of our printing as we can in the Geelong region and certainly all of our locally controlled printing is done here,” she said.
“I think it’s very important to deliver work to the region where I live.”
Ms Henderson said printing in Geelong was “competitively priced”.
“The deals we’ve secured for our printing have been really great.”
“I’m surprised Darren Cheeseman would be critical of Geelong businesses and the prices they offer. I’ve been really impressed by the level of price competition and the amazing service we’ve received from Geelong businesses.”
Mr Cheeseman said federal Senator Kim Carr, who was based in Melbourne, had arranged the printing of the brochures.
“We do print some of our own stuff locally,” Mr Cheeseman said.
“We use a mixture of Geelong and Melbourne companies depending on the job.
“It’s about getting the best value for local taxpayer funds.”
