Bag-snatcher robs 82yo pensioner at Newtown supermarket

GEELONG CIU detectives are appealing for witnesses after an 82-year-old woman was robbed of her pension cash at a Newtown supermarket car park yesterday.

The elderly Geelong West woman was walking through a car park at the intersection of Aberdeen Street and Shannon Avenue when she was approached from behind by an unknown man about 12.30pm.

The man grabbed the woman’s handbag, pulling her to the ground.

The offender ran off along Shannon Avenue with the victim’s brown-coloured handbag, containing her purse and pension money.

The woman then managed to walk home and called for an ambulance.

She was taken to Geelong Hospital and treated for bruising to her hip and shoulder.

The offender is described as Caucasian. He was wearing black clothing and white shoes.

Anyone with information about the incident is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or visit www.crimestoppers.com.au
