A 49-YEAR-old Elaine man will be charged with a list of offences, following a horror crash at Meredith, which has left a nine-year-old girl fighting for her life.

Major Collision Investigation Unit detectives yesterday interviewed the man at the Geelong Police Station.

He is to be charged on summons with dangerous driving causing serious injury, negligently causing serious injury and drink driving offences.

It is believed that a Toyota four-wheel drive was travelling north on Eclipse Road when the driver lost control on a bend and struck a number of trees about 7.30pm Friday.

The girl, from Elaine, was ejected from the vehicle and suffered serious injuries and was later taken to the Royal Children’s Hospital.

It is alleged that there were five other occupants in the car at the time of the smash.

A 20-year-old man and 20-year-old woman, both from Elaine, suffered minor injuries and were taken to Ballarat Base Hospital.

The 49-year-old man suffered minor injuries as did a nine-year-old boy. They were treated at the Geelong Hospital.

In addition an 18-year-old Elaine man was taken to the Geelong Hospital with major injuries.
