FINALLY FRIDAY: Mi-Sex playing computer games

By JOHN VAN KLAVEREN

EIGHTIES rock icons Mi-Sex made a pact a couple of years ago.
“We will get together and perform at least a few times each year.”
The band is honouring that pact by embarking on a tour taking in Geelong as they roll out their numerous ’70s and ’80s hits.
“Mi-Sex can’t wait to perform to the many Geelong punters who helped make Mi-Sex nights in Geelong so special 30 years ago,” bassist Don Martin said.
Computer Games, Blue Day, Castaway, But You Don’t Care, Graffiti Crimes, People, Falling In & Out, Space Race, It Only Hurts When I’m Laughing – the hit-list rolls on.
The word is out: Mi-Sex are back in fine style, with new frontman, Noisework’s Steve Balbi, on vocals.
The band has been proving they have lost none of the fire, passion and musicianship that propelled them to the top of the Oz music scene back in the day.
“With a number of NSW shows under our belt, the on stage chemistry once again delivers a magic live show,” Martin said.
“The set is made up of songs that you are sure to remember. It’s about doing something we love for our fans.”
Mi-Sex swept the annual Countdown awards, charting hit after hit, including a number one with the prescient Computer Games, their albums went platinum and they sold out shows.
But with the accidental death of former brilliant frontman Steve Gilpin in 1992, Mi-Sex was put to rest and the lights switched off.
The band’s resurrection only began after one of the band saw Balbi in the Ziggy Show recently. Suddenly the lights clicked on and now they’re dazzling audiences again.
The modern line up behind Steve Balbi is Murray Burns on keys, Don Martin on bass, Paul Dunningham on drums and Colin Bayley and Travis New on guitars.
Mi-Sex plays the Barwon Club on 18 January.
