Torquay’s ambos ‘at rest’ after donations

By CHERIE DONNELLAN

Torquay’s paramedics are resting safe and soundproof in a new enclosed sleeping quarters at their Grossmans Rd facility thanks to generous donations.
Paramedic educator Rodney Crole said he was enjoying a “staggering” difference in his ability to sleep soundly after 14-hour shifts in the new quarters.
The station’s staff previously only had access to adjoining sleeping and living areas, causing night-shift staff issues when paramedics tried to rest as day-shift counterparts tried to “tip-toe” around the kitchen, Mr Crole said.
He thanked Bunnings and Cavalier Homes for “thousands of dollars” worth of building materials and the installation of soundproof walls and a “thick” door.
The station’s paramedics engaged the two businesses after fearing they had driven home too many times “far more fatigued” than they should, Mr Crole said.
