Geelong’s Shell refinery is hiring new employees despite being for sale.
The company has advertised for process technologists, refinery field staff, LPG and emergency response operators and mechanical fitters.
Shell announced in April it would consider converting the refinery to an import facility if it was unable to find a buyer inside 12 months.
Mother company Royal Dutch Shell first announced plans to sell the refinery in 2010, with more than 500 workers and hundreds of contract staff facing an uncertain future since.
Shell’s advertising called for “passionate and driven professionals who want to make a positive impact at the Geelong refinery”.
“These operational and technical roles are pivotal in our journey to achieving global manufacturing excellence,” the jobs pitch said.
Shell said “expected” most Geelong staff would transfer to “any new owner”.
The company recently said it was in talks with as potential buyer.
