FINALLY FRIDAY: Diehard at festival for rock show

By CHERIE DONNELLAN

Anglesea Music Festival is set for “fair dinkum rock ‘n’ roll” when local band Diehard Dolls hits the stage, singer Lukey Luke has warned.
Luke said he and his band-mates were looking forward to playing their original songs.
“Anglesea Music Festival-goers love their rock ‘n’ roll,” he declared.
The Geelong and Surf Coast-based band will play as the Saturday headline act for the three-day festival from 18 to 20 October.
Luke said Diehard Dolls shows were as much about the “visual” content as the music.
Each gig was “energetic, sweaty, lively and raw”, he said.
But Luke joked that performing such an intense show as the band’s frontman would required him to spend time in the gym.
“I have to try and keep myself fit for it … well, I have to get fit for it.”
Luke hoped the band’s fans would decide their favourite tracks after listening to the festival set, although he said Finish What You Started was always a crowd-pleaser.
“People are familiar with that one because we’ve made a video clip for it.”
Luke humbly attributed Diehard Dolls success to the band’s composition of accomplished musicians.
“Mango is a really good muso. He can play different instruments but he’s very solid on bass,” Luke said.
“[Drummer] Vixx has played in every band I can think of, including [tribute band] Fighting the Foo. He’s very, very good.”
“Kromy is one of the best guitarists I’ve even seen. He’s a freak of nature.”
Luke steered away from revealing the members’ birth names.
“Our real names are insignificant because, as far as the band’s concerned, our nicknames are who we are.”
