Fly the flag on Australia Day

GEELONG residents will be able to show their national pride by attending Australia Day celebrations at Rippleside.
The Rippleside Park will be awash with Australian flags, national mascots and green and gold, with families enjoying an array of free activities.
Highlights include horse cart rides, face painting, giant slide, jumping castles and a number of community activities and displays.
Geelong Talent Group, featuring Dame Edna Average, will provide stage entertainment on the day.
A presentation of flowers and medallions will be made to the first-born in Geelong.
Geelong Australia Day Committee’s Don Barby encouraged families to come along to the free children’s fun day.
“We have a couple of surprises this year and we hope it will be a great success,” he said.
“Last year was our best year, we had about 4000 people turn out, so we hope this year is even better.”
The Australia Day celebrations have been running for the past 30 years, Mr Barby said.
The event is organised by the Lions Club of Corio Bay, with help from the Lions Club of Hamlyn Heights and the Rippleside Action Group.
The official flag raising ceremony will take place at 1pm.
The Australia Day celebrations begin at 11am on Tuesday, January 26.
