City parking up for review

CONSULTANTS will review Geelong’s inner-city car parking problems, City Hall has announced.
The study follows protracted complaints over several years about parking and vehicle access to the central city area.
Ward councillor Michelle Heagney said the review would investigate how to make parking “accessible, convenient and sustainable” as the city moved from predominantly retail activities to more mixed uses.
“The parking review will take into account the increasing numbers of residents living in central Geelong and the potential impact of major strategic plans such as Vision 2.”
Focuses of the review will include: existing policies and parking arrangements; need for short, medium and long-term parking; arrangements in similar cities; residential parking permits; transport alternatives such as buses and cycling; short-term solutions and “longer evolutionary change”.
Council expected to have the findings by September.
