GEELONG’S $45 million library and heritage centre redevelopment should be complete in late 2015, state Planning Minister Matthew Guy has announced.
Mr Guy approved the project this week, saying it had “significant economic, social and cultural importance” to Geelong.
The futuristic broken-egg-shell design has drawn praise as well as scorn but earned the backing of various groups including the region’s tourism board.
“This redevelopment will not only modernise the existing facilities to ensure they meet the needs of the future but will affirm the region’s rich heritage and cultural significance,” Mr Guy said.
