FINALLY FRIDAY: Sisters bring hotel harmonies

By MICHELLE HERBISON

THE exquisite blending of three sisters’ voices that shot the McClymont sisters to fame six years ago will highlight the trio’s next Geelong gig.
Mollie McClymont told the Independent The McClymonts would embark on a stripped-back acoustic tour, showcasing their gorgeous harmonies.
“We’ve been doing band gigs for the last five or six years, so this year we wanted to do something totally different. People had been coming up to us after shows saying they just want to hear our harmonies so we thought, why don’t we strip it back and do it acoustic,” McClymont said.
The McClymonts’ acoustic tour will showcase the band’s music from an early EP through to last year’s ARIA-award-winning album, Two Worlds Collide.
The girls performed the first of their acoustic harmony shows this year at Tamworth Country Music Festival where they also picked up a Golden Guitar award for Highest Selling Australian Album.
McClymont said the intimate acoustic shows had so far elicited some of the trio’s best audience responses.
“We can connect with the audience and tell stories about our songs, our trips to America and what’s been happening in our lives.”
She explained the band was taking it easy playing only weekends since guitarist and singer Brooke gave birth to her first child in November.
“It’s been awesome. We’re not doing as many gigs as we usually do, we’re keeping it a bit more settled.
“Actually, it’s probably not going to be settled,” McClymont added with a laugh.
“We’ll head to America for a summer tour, so I guess it never stops. The baby will come – she’s so easygoing.”
The McClymonts are working hard at breaking into the American country music scene, spending every summer touring around the country and collaborating with songwriters in Nashville.
The girls were “slowly but surely” gaining popularity, McClymont said, through supporting big names such as Jason Aldean, Lady Antebellum, Hunter Hayes, Kelly Pickler and Luke Bryan.
McClymont lovingly described Victorian crowds as “ridiculous”.
“Because we don’t come that much they all come out to our shows. They’re really rowdy and we love it.”
The McClymonts play Corio’s Gateway Hotel on 20 April.
