Local musician Emma Hewitt has risen up the music industry ladder like a bullet.
From humble beginnings in Geelong nightclubs to live shows in Las Vegas, the former rock singer turned trance music artist can hardly fathom her three-year ride to stardom.
“It’s all really exciting but I can’t believe it,” Hewitt gushed.
Speaking to the Indep-endent from the Westfield car park on the eve of her final Australian show earlier this month, Hewitt could hardly believe she was about to fly to the United States this week.
“It doesn’t feel real, I don’t think it’s really hit me yet,” she admitted.
“We’ve been so busy organising everything, writing and working in the studio – it probably won’t hit me till I’m on the plane.”
Hewitt has since staked her place on one of the biggest stages in Las Vegas, performing in front of thousands at the world famous Palms Resort.
Following her tour of the US, Hewitt will jet to Spain to perform alongside German trance outfit Cosmic Gate.
“I’ve never been to Vegas or Ibiza, so I’m really looking forward to it,” she said.
“We’re spending a week in Ibiza to film a video – it’s going to be amazing.”
Hewitt burst onto the international dance scene in 2007 after co-writing Carry Me Away with Chris Lake.
“I started out doing rock music but really wanted to get into dance music – this was my first venture into dance,” she explained.
“I always loved the sound – the mix of ethereal vocals over hard trance – it kind of suits my singing voice a lot more.”
Despite her love of Geelong, Hewitt said she planned to pursue a career in dance music in Europe early next year.
“I love Geelong but I’m thinking about basing myself in Berlin – there’s a huge music and arts scene over there,” she said.
“Trance isn’t as big in Australia as it is in Europe.”
