Superkid Dylan back in training for waterfront triathlon

Dylan Newman competed in his first triathlon only last year but the Newcomb 10-year-old is already setting his sights on Ironman championships.
He is excited to be gearing up for his second Geelong Independent SuperKidz Triathlon as part of next month’s Geelong Multisport Festival.
The determined youngster was inspired to try the sport after watching his cousin, uncle and a friend compete.
Dylan said his training schedule involved three weekly sessions either swimming, running or cycling.
“Mum and I go to Kardinia pool every Wednesday. I’ll also run one week then bike the next week,” he said.
Cycling came out on top as Dylan’s favourite of the three disciplines because it was “a lot more fun” than swimming or running, he said.
Dylan pushed himself to the limit at last year’s event but never felt like giving up.
“I was exhausted!” he said.
“I’m going to do it again just for the fun of it.”
Mum Paige was proud of her son’s accomplishment in last year’s event.
“It’s just great for his confidence,” she said.
Dyland recommended that children aged seven to 13 try the SuperKidz triathlon on Saturday, February 9.
“Do it and have fun and train hard. It’s worth it.”
The multisport festival from February 8 to 10 also includes a range of events for all ages and abilities.
