A NORTH Geelong venue’s application to install extra pokies has sparked a council investigation.
Councillors voted this week to undertake a social and economic impact statement on whether the 10 machines would hurt the community.
A council report said Sphinx Entertainment Centre had 57 pokies but was licensed for 63. The venue had bought 10 machines but needed approval for the four pokies over its licence.
The Sphinx had provided a social and economic impact assessment arguing the extra pokies would not be detrimental to the community, the report said.
