Geelong family ’A-Team’ on a roller

Geelong’s first family of roller hockey won a nickname at recent Australian championships in Adelaide.
The Aparicios became The A-Team, with six members competing across five divisions.
Raul Aparicio said he and his children were the biggest contingent from one family in roller hockey association history.
Not only did various family members win medals, two were selected to national representation teams.
Ashlie Aparicio was selected in the Australian junior and senior women’s national side to compete at Inline Hockey Junior Olympics and senior world championships in the US next year.
She also won gold medals mixing it with boys in an under-17 state team and with the senior women’s side, Raul said.
Jake and Luke Aparicio won silver with the senior men’s team, while Jordi Aparicio claimed a bronze in the under-21 team.
Raul came out of retirement to help out a New South Wales side but could only manage the veterans division’s wooden spoon.
Jake was selected to join the Australian under-23 national side, while Jordi was invited to join Melbourne King’s Victorian Junior Elite team.
The Aparicios helped Victoria regain the overall trophy from Queensland.
