Collection unveiled

Alex de Vos
Pottery collectors from around Victoria converged at Fyans Cottage Geelong on Tuesday night to launch the new Moorcroft Australian Fauna and Flora collection.
Organiser Yvonne Little said the event was a “huge success”.
“We had close to 200 people attend from all over the state,” Ms Little said.
“It was absolutely marvellous.”
She said the event showcased a variety of limited edition pottery including beautiful table lamps and prestige pieces featuring designs of kangaroo paws, fairy wrens, Cooktown orchids and sugar gliders,
“They are all hand-made, very unique, rare and feature beautiful vibrant colours,” Ms Little said.
“They just seem to appeal to the young and old.”
Moorcroft chair Hugh Edwards unveiled the new collection and signed pieces snapped up by impressed collectors, she said.
“We also had a demonstrator on hand showing people how pottery is made.”
She said the brand, which was established in 1913 in the United Kingdom, has enjoyed a steady rise in world-wide success.
“The pottery lists The Queen, Prince Charles, Tom Cruise, the Sultan of Brunei, UK Prime Minister Gordon Brown and Rod Steward as clients. They each have have pieces in their homes,” Ms Little said.
“No two pieces of Moorcroft are ever the same – the pottery’s rich colours are amazing.”
Other Australian designs released since its inception include the waratah, bottle brush, the Sturt Desert pea and the Tasmanian blue gum.
Ms Little said the company still operated out of the same factory that was built in 1913.
“Every single piece of pottery is still made and painted by hand – Moorcroft essentially hasn’t changed a thing.”
Moorcroft pieces retail between $1000 and $50,000.
