Donors blanket needy with goodwill

GEELONG residents have donated blankets and other woollies to keep needy people warm this winter.
Youth work student Emily Nester organised a blanket appeal this week to collect winter accessories for the region’s homeless and disadvantaged.
Ms Nester said the appeal gathered 300 blankets and 70 scarves and hats for Geelong’s Salvation Army, Christ Church soup kitchen and Corio’s Outpost.
“We wanted to collect 2000 blankets, so we barely scratched the surface,” Ms Nester said.
“However, I’m very thankful for everyone who donated goods or helped out with the appeal.
“There’s a huge need for these sorts of things for people to be able to survive winter.
“People wonder how they survive out there. Well, they don’t, we just don’t hear about it.”
