Corio stabbing horror

Alex de Vos
A man who repeatedly stabbed two people in Corio on Wednesday afternoon appeared “quite lucid” after the attack, according to police.
Corio Police Sergeant Colin Birch said the 22-year-old did not seem to be under the influence of either drugs or alcohol.
He was cooperative with police who arrested him at the scene, Sgt Birch said.
“We’ve had no issues with the offender.”
Sgt Birch alleged the man stabbed his first victim soon after 1pm near an ALDI supermarket on the corner of Broderick Road and the Princes Highway.
“A 17-year-old woman was walking along the road and was approached from behind and stabbed numerous times to the back with a kitchen knife,” Sgt Birch said.
Police alleged the offender then crossed the road to a Caltex service station where he repeatedly stabbed a man filling his car with petrol.
“The 70-year-old man was stabbed several times to the back and the shoulder,” Sgt Birch said.
“Both people were taken to the Geelong Hospital and are in a stable condition.”
Sgt Birch said police took the man to the Geelong station for questioning immediately after his arrest.
Sgt Birch urged anyone who witnessed the attack or saw a man acting suspiciously in the area at the time of the attack to contact police.
“There may be further witnesses who might have seen a man hanging around carrying a knife,” Sgt Birch said.
“We’re appealing to anyone to help piece together the incident.”
Sgt Birch said he expected the man to appear in front of Geelong’s Magistrates Court on Thursday morning.
ALDI assistant manager Paula Mondini said she was unaware of the alleged attacks until police contacted her.
Caltex service station staff said they did not know anything about the stabbing but confirmed police were inspecting the station’s security camera footage.
