SOCCER on the Surf Coast is ready to burst at the seams, according to club coach Lindsay Falzon.
He issued the warning after Torquay’s Surf Coast Soccer Club came within a whisker of winning Football Federation Victoria’s pre-season competition for the region.
Geelong Rangers – four divisions ahead in league competition – held off underdog Surf Coast for a 1-0 Go For Your Life Cup victory last weekend.
Mr Falzon said the team would gain confidence after conceding 14 goals in four games and only scoring once in the competition between all Geelong teams in the previous pre-season.
“The teams that are involved in this cup are all at a higher level,” he said.
“Rangers and North Geelong are four divisions up but we beat Corio – and they’re three divisions above.”
Mr Falzon said Surf Coast had one of the youngest playing groups in the region, which reflected the burgeoning status of both the game and the area.
He was expecting calls from players interested in joining the club after last week’s performance.
“We’ve had guys rocking up not knowing we had a decent club.”
