Eleven-year-old Jacob Law refuses to let vision impairment hold him back.
The Bell Post Hill youngster enjoyed fame last year as the face of Vision Australia’s Carols by Candlelight and officially opened the organisation’s Made to be Held exhibition of “tactile sculpture” in Geelong yesterday.
Mum Jane Law said Jacob loved sculpting after creating his own work of art for the exhibition.
Jacob was “just like every other kid”, Ms Law marvelled.
“Low vision is all he’s ever known but he’s always been a big advocate for himself,” she said.
“He’s really positive about it, he always has been and it hasn’t stopped him from doing anything.”
Ms Law said Jacob showed no sign of nerves when speaking to open the exhibition.
“He’s quite good at public speaking. It was a really big responsibility but he has done such a good job and we’re so proud of him.”
Jacob said he enjoyed Vision Australia programs, particularly art classes.
“I’m excited I got to open the art exhibition because I really like sculpting but when I grow up I want to work at Ford with my dad,” he said.
The sculpture exhibition is at Vision Australia’s Geelong office, 79 High Street, Belmont.
