COUNTRY Fire Authority has urged residents to begin preparing for the region’s worst fire season ever.
The region’s fire chief Bob Barry said taking the following steps could mean a difference between life and death for residents of fire-prone areas:
• remove fine fuels (anything thinner than a human finger) from around homes;
• clear any organic debris from around homes;
• keep lawns and excess grass mowed;
• ensure any fire-fighting equipment is ready for use;
• ensure adequate personal protective gear is available; and
• have a fire safety plan in place.
Mr Barry said people should contact their local fire brigade or the regional office on 5240 2700 to develop a fire safety plan.
Be prepared
