Woman found dead on Eastern Beach

Homicide Squad detectives will investigate the death of a woman after a body was found on Eastern Beach this morning.

Emergency services were alerted by a community member about an unresponsive person at Eastern Beach Pavilion at around 11.20am on Wednesday 28 January.

A Victoria Police spokesperson told the Independent that the body was of a woman who was yet to be formally identified.

“Police and emergency services are currently (as of 2.30pm on Wednesday) at Eastern Beach Pavilion after the body of a woman was located this morning,” they said.

“The exact circumstances surrounding her death are yet to be established, and detectives from the Homicide Squad will also attend the scene.”

An Ambulance Victoria spokesperson told the Independent that Advanced Life Support paramedics also responded to the scene.

City of Greater Geelong chief executive Ali Wastie said lifeguards responded quickly and immediately to the situation.

“City officers are now reviewing the CCTV footage, and we are assisting Victoria Police with their investigations,” she said.

“I want to praise the first responders for their prompt efforts in this tragic situation, and also recognise the community member who alerted the lifeguards.”
