A man has been arrested after being fully ejected from an allegedly stolen vehicle in Geelong South overnight.
Police officers attempted to intercept a Toyota van on Newcomb’s Wilsons Road around midnight on Friday 23 January, before the vehicle allegedly took off at a fast speed on the wrong side of the road.
The van was spotted a short time later, allegedly running a red light on Norlane’s Yooringa Avenue before it allegedly collided with a truck at South Geelong’s Latrobe Terrace and Kilgour Street intersection after running another red light.
The alleged driver, a 29-year-old Ballarat man, was fully ejected from the van because of the collision, while the truck’s driver was uninjured.
The man allegedly picked himself up and attempted to get back inside the van before taking off from the scene on foot.
Members of the community who witnessed the incident detained the man until police arrived and arrested him, with the man taken to the hospital under police guard.
Investigators allege that the van was stolen from an Ocean Grove address earlier this week, with investigations into the incident remaining ongoing.
Anyone who witnessed the incident, has footage or information about the incident, is urged to contact Crime Stoppers at crimestoppersvic.com.au or on 1800 333 000.
