Spring Creek Oval nears completion

Spring Creek Oval remains on track to reopen in time for the upcoming football season as the upgrade project reaches its final stage.

Reconstruction of the oval started in October last year, which is expected to be completed and reopened in March with new turf laid last week as part of the major upgrade.

Surf Coast Shire councillor Liz Pattison said she was glad to see the project reach the milestone after the oval was determined to have reached the end of its useful life.

“We know the closure required flexibility from local clubs and users, and we sincerely thank them for their understanding and support,” she said.

“This upgrade will deliver a high-quality, fit-for-purpose playing surface that can be used year-round and enjoyed by the whole community.

“I’d especially like to thank the Torquay Cricket Club for relocating their matches for the 2025/2026 season to allow the reconstruction to go ahead.

“With turf now in place, we are asking the community to stay off the grass during this important establishment period, and the oval will remain closed until it is ready to use.”

Reconstruction upgrades included new turf and sub-surface works, improved drainage and irrigation, and fencing, minor pavement and kerb works.

Spring Creek Recreation Reserve is a regional-level sports facility that hosts local and district-level AFL and cricket competitions, along with state-level VFL matches.
