English gun stars with six-for

Star English recruit Jess Woolston took the astonishing figures of six wickets for two runs in Geelong Cricket Association women’s A Grade competition on Sunday 11 January.

Woolston, 22, became the second Magpie to achieve the feat in A Grade this season after Isla Hannah-Phillips took 6/23 in round 3.

Fast bowler Woolston arrived at Zenviron Oval this season with a strong resume having played for Durham, Yorkshire and Northern Diamonds.

The Magpies took less than nine overs to pass East Belmont’s 59 all out.

Geelong City’s Izabella Storrar again made runs, this time with an impressive 81 from 78 deliveries. Young gun Poppy Agg had a terrific all-round game, making 22 and snaring 4/7 while Erin Moloney took 3/7.

A 55-ball 57 from Rebecca McPoyle and 4/22 by Bree Gaylor helped East Belmont to a thrilling two-wicket win against Barwon Heads. Jane Burch (56) and youngsters Matilda Cole (3/9) and Luca Bode (2/13) were strong contributors for the Seagulls.

Lethbridge (4/156) won a high-scoring game against St Joseph’s (4/155) with Suzana Ljubojevic starring. Ljubojevic took 3/18 from six overs and then backed it up with a stylish unbeaten 64 to guide the Rosellas home with three overs to spare.
