More than 1350 swimmers took part in the 37th Rip View Swim Classic at Point Lonsdale on 29 December, raising more than $130,000 for essential surf lifesaving equipment.
Swimmers of all ages and abilities took to the water across three swim distances: 3.8km, 1.4km and 600metres.
Thousands of spectators, volunteers and supporters created a vibrant, festival-style atmosphere.
Point Lonsdale Surf Lifesaving Club president Michael Doery said the event played an important role in supporting both lifesaving services and the wider regional economy.
“The Rip View Swim Classic is first and foremost a community event,” he said. “It brings people to Point Lonsdale from across Victoria, supports local tourism, and creates meaningful opportunities for local businesses and community groups to be involved.
“The market stalls and live music along the main street were a huge success and helped create a real buzz throughout the town, showcasing everything this region has to offer.”
Club captain Jess Robinson highlighted the importance of the event as a major fundraiser and paid tribute to the depth of volunteer involvement.
“Every dollar raised goes straight back into supporting this club and the lifesaving services we provide,” she said.
“Our water safety teams worked tirelessly throughout the day, and the event simply wouldn’t happen without the incredible support of our volunteers – from members as young as 13 handing out water and setting up equipment, to non-lifesaving volunteers running registration, manning information desks, driving buses and supporting swimmers and spectators throughout the day.”
