Year in review – August

The City of Greater Geelong closed its truck wash facilities three weeks earlier than first announced due to the theft of a significant amount of copper piping.

Two people were arrested and charged after allegedly carjacking a 56-year-old woman’s vehicle in Lara, while two teenagers smashed a car window and dragged out the driver before stealing the car in Norlane.

Geelong Cougars were valiant in their loss in the Under 23 Victorian Netball League grand final, going down 42-54 to Melbourne University Lightning.

The Lara incinerator was stymied for the foreseeable future, with Prospect Hill International’s proposed facility absent from Recycling Victoria announcement of successful applicants to Victoria’s waste-to-energy scheme.

Geelong Bank announced it would explore a merger with Hume Bank, which would potentially create one of the largest regional customer-owned banks in Australia with $2.4b in assets, 16 branches and more than 60,000 customers.
