Running towards the new year

Geelong waterfront will come alive in the early hours of New Year’s Eve as hundreds of people come together to run for a good cause.

The 5km Dawnbuster Fun Run will provide participants with an opportunity to celebrate the end of the year through an active community event that supports the Give Where You Live Foundation.

Foundation chief executive Zac Lewis said all funds raised would go towards providing food security, homelessness assistance and inclusive employment to people in need.

“We can’t think of a better way to kickstart your 2026 than raising funds for the Give Where You Live Foundation,” he said.

“It is great to see the community coming together to support the foundation, with runners of all ages and fitness levels joining in.

“The run will help support people in our community who may be experiencing homelessness, struggling to put food on the table, or facing barriers to employment.”

The event was organised in partnership with Geelong Cross Country Club, and Dr John Morton said he looked forward to seeing participants in the Dawnbuster during its 34th year.

“Every year since 1992, runners have lined up at 7am on New Year’s Eve and run or jog the scenic course,” he said.

“Starting the last day of 2025 with a run along Geelong’s beautiful waterfront is the perfect way to set the tone for the year ahead and support your community.”

The event will kick off from Geelong’s waterfront on 31 December from 7am, with families, friends and individuals of all fitness levels welcome to participate.
