Some minor changes to some Greater Geelong bin collections will occur during the holiday period.
Residents who usually get their bins collected on Thursday and Friday will have their bins collected one day later.
For people with a usual collection day falling on Thursday 25 December 2025 and Thursday 1 January 2026, bins will be collected on Friday 26 December 2025 and Friday 2 January 2026.
Those who would have a usual collection day of Friday 26 December 2025 and Friday 2 January 2026 will have their bins collected on Saturday 27 December 2025 and Saturday 3 January 2026.
There are no changes for bin collection days from Monday to Wednesday.
Environment and Circular Economy portfolio chair councillor Elise Wilkinson encouraged people to consider a low-waste Christmas.
“With a bit of pre-planning, it’s easy to reduce the amount of waste produced at Christmas, making clean up easier to handle and reducing your impact on the environment,” she said.
“Think about cooking from scratch, reducing packaging, and sustainable gift-giving like giving experiences or edible gifts.”
As usual, residents are asked to put their bins out the evening before their scheduled collection day, with collections taking place the following morning.
City of Greater Geelong’s Resource Recovery Centres will be closed on Christmas Day and New Year’s Day, but will operate with normal hours on all other days, allowing people to drop off extra cardboard and other holiday waste.
