Surf Coast Shire residents are helping shape the upcoming season of the new Winchelsea Pool for the community to make a splash.
Council received feedback on the community’s preferences for summer season operations through a recent survey, with people calling for consistent opening hours across school terms and holidays.
Councillor Tony Phelps said the new pool was opened in February following an $8.9 million redevelopment, with the summer season planned to run from late November this year to early March next year.
“Council is now considering a range of adjustments within the adopted 2025-26 pool operating budget as we prepare for opening of the new summer season in late November,” he said.
“People have also expressed strong interest in swimming lessons, school programs, the introduction of lap lanes, improved accessibility features, and better communication during opening hours.
“We thank community members for having shared preferences and thoughts during our engagement, and we appreciate their wishes to make the most of this wonderful new community asset.”
The feedback also called for the introduction of a closure temperature threshold, with closures on colder days potentially allowing for longer openings on hotter days, weekends and public holidays.
Mr Phelps said times for the upcoming season would be finalised and communicated with the community by mid-October, with a focus on consistent hours across school terms and holidays.
