The sky above Rippleside Park will be filled with colour when local children’s disability support and health provider Kids+ holds its fifth Kite Festival on October 5.

The popular annual event, which has drawn more than 1000 people in past years, promotes disability awareness through an activity that is accessible to all, flying a kite.

The day will feature kids activities, entertainment, food trucks, music and a giant kite flying display.

Kids+ marketing manager Sharon Gibbons said the organisation’s fifth Kite Festival was “a big moment for us”.

“Seeing the event grow each year has been thrilling, with attendee numbers quadrupling since 2021,” Ms Gibbons said.

“We know there is an appetite in the community for free, fun, family events, and we hope that attendees take an interest in who Kids+ are and what we do, most importantly, taking our message of inclusion away with them.

Kites will also be available for purchase on the day, with proceeds going to the Kids+ sport and recreation program.

The program gives participants the chance to get involved with activities such as bike-riding, surfing and swimming.

“If you have seen the excitement of our Surf Ed group at Fishermans Beach or our joyful bike riders around the Deakin Campus, you will understand how much it means to our participants and their families,” Ms Gibbons said.

“Kids+ would like to thank the local community, our long-standing sponsors, and our team, who embody the message of inclusion and champion accessibility on a daily basis.

“Come down to Rippleside Park on Sunday, October 5, and help us celebrate five years of flying kites for inclusion.”
