Six grants for community

Golden Plains Shire community groups will be able to provide projects and events to help strengthen and celebrate the region.

Six groups will share in a combined $88,249 over the next three years to deliver projects and events through this year’s round of Berrybank Wind Farm Community Grants.

Successful recipients included Zineverleigh with $18,625 for its Exhibition of Tiny Art in Inverleigh and Golden Plains Soccer Club with $17,924 for its rejuvenation project.

Turtle Bend Committee’s Teesdale Christmas Market and Carols event will receive $15,000, followed by $13,000 for Woady Yaloak Historical Society’s Smythesdale Historic Police Precinct Upgrade.

Country Fire Authority’s Haddon Fire Brigade LED sign repair and replacement project will also benefit from $12,000, and $11,700 will support Camp4Cancer Geelong’s camping event in Murgheboluc.

Golden Plains Shire mayor Owen Sharkey said the program provides crucial funding to support events and projects across the region.

“This ongoing program continues to deliver vital funds for community events and projects which bring communities together,” he said.

“We look forward to these projects delivering numerous benefits to their communities through increased access to arts and culture, improved amenity to public spaces and increased physical activity.”

Funding was provided by Berrybank Wind Farm and Golden Plains Shire Council across two categories, including Economic Development Projects and Tourism Projects.

There will be a minimum of one round of Berrybank Wind Farm Community Grants application opportunities each year, with one-year and multi-year funding available.
