Connecting young people with opportunity

Young people will have the chance to develop their career prospects when Golden Plains Shire hosts two industry nights at Bannockburn P-12 College.

The first event, held on Tuesday, August 19, will focus on construction and trades, while the second on Tuesday, August 26 will concentrate on hair and beauty.

All young people aged from 14 to 25 are invited to attend the industry nights, which will feature local guest speakers from the featured industries.

Training and apprenticeship support providers will also be on hand to help attendees develop networking opportunities with local businesses.

Golden Plains mayor Owen Sharkey encouraged secondary students and young people to attend these events and open up new career opportunities.

“If you’ve been thinking about a career in construction and trades or hair and beauty, these nights are a fantastic opportunity,” Cr Sharkey said.

“Come along and chat with local experts and apprentices to learn about a potential career in these fields.

“This is a great opportunity to expand your network and hear directly from industry professionals about their experiences in these fields.”

The industry nights are part of the shire’s Work Readiness Program, which is part of the state government’s Engage! funding initiative.
