Mitch Pope will take to the streets as he pedals around Corangamite for climate action ahead of the federal election.
The Greens candidate for Corangamite will complete the 120-kilometre bike ride and stop at three early voting booths within the electorate on Saturday, April 26.
Mr Pope said he wanted to encourage voters to stand up for the climate and young people’s future during the May 3 federal election.
“Young people are feeling more and more anxious about how the climate and environmental crises will impact their future, myself included,” he said.
“We need urgent action to address the climate and environmental crises, but we aren’t seeing what’s required from Labor and the Liberals.
“Labor is continuing to open new coal and gas mines, while Peter Dutton’s Liberals have a nuclear plan which will delay climate action, and they want to fast track new gas approvals.”
Mr Pope will visit early voting booths in Torquay, Drysdale and Ocean Grove. He said delayed climate action would seriously affect young people’s future.
“Voting 1 Greens is a vote for ending new coal and gas approvals, banning native forest logging and protecting and restoring our natural environment,” he said.
“I’m riding a lap of Corangamite to bring attention back to the climate crisis, which is still getting worse, and encourage voters to vote for the climate and vote for young people’s future at this election.”
