Carols spread joy

Greater Geelong is the place to be for Christmas carols this weekend, with Lara and Corio hosting free events for the community.

It will all kick off with Lara Carols at Pirra Homestead from 6.30pm on Saturday 13 December, which will provide music and entertainment for residents, young and old.

Event organising member Pastor Rob Chaney said he was expecting “bigger than ever crowds” from this year’s carols.

“Santa Claus will come along, and there will be an opportunity for him to interact with the children on the night,” he said.

“One of the things that we want to do is basically make sure that the traditional element of Christmas remains, and that is having Jesus Christ as the centre of Christmas.

“Therefore, we want to make sure that those elements hold true on the night, and that includes a retelling of the Christmas story from a traditional perspective.

“I love the fact that there is a sense of having the community gather together for events like this, as well as families being able to get together and enjoy the festivities of Christmas.

“You don’t particularly have to be religious at all to come along because there really is something for everybody…and we’re really looking forward to a wonderful night.”

The Good Neighbourhood Project will then host Northern Carols on Sunday 14 December from 5pm at Corio Community Park.

The event will feature a line-up of talented local performers, including school groups, along with a petting zoo, roving performers, and face painting.
