TAC executive Tracey Slatter is the winner of an inaugural challenge to improve the fitness of Geelong office workers.
Eight executives accepted the Geelong Chamber of Commerce challenge to promote healthier workplaces.
Ms Slatter said her transformation over three months competing in Geelong’s Fittest Exec 2011 was surprising.
“I’d done some fitness work before but hadn’t noticed much difference but this has been transformational,” she said.
Ms Slatter lost 6kg, worked 14cm from her waist, reduced her “bio-age” by 10 years and doubled her aerobic-cardio fitness levels.
“But it’s how good I feel and the energy levels I have that’s the real difference. That translates into productivity,” Ms Slatter said.
“Health and fitness is as essential to performance as skills or technical knowledge.”
Other competitors were Leaders for Geelong program’s Jean Paul, Gordon TAFE’s Sue Warner, the chamber’s Bernadette Uzelac, Barwon Health’s David Ashbridge, Third Ecology’s Mark Sanders, Mayor John Mitchell and lawyer Andrew Senia.
Robyn Reimers, who operates challenge training venue Club Exec, said Ms Slatter was initially sceptical about the benefits of the challenge.
“Her previous quests for health and fitness were seriously undermined by her strong belief that no amount of training could change her body shape and physiology.
“She can now continue toward her goals with confidence that she can make further gains if she puts her mind to it.”
