Many people don’t take a good look at their heating until it’s too late, says Mist Heating, Cooling and Plumbing’s Ivan Pausak.
“Heating and cooling is something people don’t think about until it breaks down,” says the manager of the company’s new showroom.
“There are people out there with 20 or 30-year-old heaters – the newer models are a lot more efficient.”
Mist’s Mercer Street showroom opened a few weeks ago, and locals are coming in to find the best way to stave off the winter chill and save on their bills.
“It’s more about coming in, having a chat and getting the right advice,” Ivan says.
“Most commonly people are coming now for gas-ducted heaters.”

Between a three-star and six-star heater, both new, “you’re looking at a 30 per cent saving on your gas bill”, Ivan says.
The saving can be much bigger when clients replace an old heater, he adds.
The store stocks heating solutions from gas ducting, reverse cycle, radiant heaters, gas log fireplaces, split systems and more.
Ivan says a lot of people are looking up heating online to save time.
But with staff who know the products inside out, it can be faster to come into the store.
“The whole idea behind the showroom is you come in and have a 15- minute chat – we deal with all these products all the time,” he says.
Ivan encourages people to come in before they start building for some timely advice.
“That’s the best time to come in,” he says. “Come in, bring your plans and you can go through all you different options prior to building.
