Geelong Advertiser sales keep falling, says audit

GOING DOWN: New circulation audit figures are bleak reading for News Corp's Geelong Advertiser.

READERS have continued deserting the Geelong Advertiser, according to a latest circulation audit.
The Advertiser’s weekday circulation fell 7.2 per cent in the December quarter compared to the same time the previous year, Australian Bureau of Circulations (ABC) reported.
The fall left the Advertiser, a News Corp paper, with average daily Monday to Friday circulation of 19,034, down from 20,509 a year before.
Saturdays were even worse, down 7.3 per cent to 33,695.
The Advertiser’s circulation has now fallen around 30 per cent since the Advertiser reported a Saturday “record” 48,133 in 2003.
The declines at the Advertiser are in line with falling circulations for paid newspapers across Australia and the world amid the spread of digital alternatives and free community papers.
Circulation of paid newspapers is defined as the number of copies distributed on a particular day, mostly through sales.
