‘Outsiders’ in Torquay raids

ERIN PEARSON
Police believe two men from out of town are behind a series of burglaries in Torquay over the past week.
Torquay Police Senior Constable Joshua Terpstra said their raids climbed to 10 burglaries and a theft after the men fled from Safeway with unpaid baskets of food on Monday.
He said the men, who police believed were in their 20s, had targeted more than a dozen businesses and caused thousands of dollars damage since April 26.
They could be driving a white Holden station wagon, Snr Const Terpstra said.
“The same types of premises have been targeted, they’ve all been vacant at night and the offenders have used the same MO (method of operations).
“They’re after food and alcohol as well as opportunistic cash on premises.”
On April 26 two offenders smashed a window at Jan Juc’s Soul Fuel Cafe to gain entry before stealing food, alcohol and cash.
Two days later they broke into Torquay’s Farm Foods to steal meat and alcohol. Later the same night they unsuccessfully sought entry to Tapas Cafe.
The men also attempted to smash their way into Corkscrew Cellars, PETstock, Beach Front Cafe and Growlers but left empty handed.
Police believe a separate offender broke into Rip Curl to steal thousands of dollars worth of watches on April 26.
